Overwhelmed

so overwhelmed, in fact, that I forgot what I was going to write.  It sounded really good in my head though, while I was walking home.  Not because it was actually good, but because I felt good after having two beers and no food, because I simply didn’t have time to eat until it was happy hour, and food is more expensive than free beer.  I’m not supposed to have very much class on friday, which apparently means that it is okay for everyone to schedule an extra class, leaving me no free time.  it actually turned into negative time, maybe, since everything ran late.  really, everything.  Twice today we were all warned not to wait until the last minute to search for books, to use the fabrication lab etc.  But then last night, we finally had our first desk crits with our studio instructor (at 10 pm), which of course resulted in more work to be done by 3:00 today, somewhere inbetween everything else.  But don’t wait till the last minute.  Not a good habit to get into.

On a lighter note, my desk crit today went really well.  We are making a hat out of playing cards, brads, and rubberbands.  We should end up with a geometry that is very iconic, but it’s made up of all these small, seamingly insignificant parts – the opposite of iconic.

F for Philadelphia

Philadelphia is awesome, with the exception of two things:

1. Public transportation is not awesome when the bus route I need to get to IKEA has a detour so ridiculous that the bus driver has a list of directions in front of him all the way through town.  I must say though, he was an awesome driver…the streets he went down were so narrow, I would have hesitated even in the most compact car.

2. Buying alcohol in Philadelphia is not awesome.  The laws are very strict.  Wine and spirits can only be sold at government owned liquor stores (there are only a few, and I don’t think there are any close to my house).  Beer is a little easier.  You can buy “take out” beer at certain restaurants that have liquor licenses, but a six pack costs $11, unless it’s Coors Light, then you can get 6 for $9!  What a bargain!  Never again will I complain about not being able to buy beer on a Sunday!
